Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and passionate Archivist to manage, preserve, and provide access to our organization’s historical documents and records. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of archival principles and practices, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills. The Archivist will play a crucial role in safeguarding our heritage and making valuable information accessible to staff, researchers, and the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize, catalog, and preserve archival materials, including documents, photographs, audio-visual materials, and artifacts
  • Develop and implement archival policies and procedures to ensure the proper management and preservation of records
  • Conduct regular assessments of archival collections to identify conservation needs and prioritize preservation efforts
  • Create finding aids, inventories, and other descriptive tools to facilitate access to archival materials
  • Assist researchers and staff in locating and using archival resources, providing guidance on research methodologies
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote awareness of archival collections and their significance
  • Develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, and presentations to engage the community and promote the use of archives
  • Stay current with developments in the archival field, including best practices, technologies, and preservation techniques
  • Manage digitization projects to enhance access to archival materials and improve their preservation
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards related to records management and access to information

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Archival Science, History, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience working in an archives or similar environment
  • Strong knowledge of archival standards, practices, and technologies (e.g., DACS, EAD)
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Proficiency in archival management software and digital preservation tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Commitment to professional development and staying informed about trends in the archival field
