Job Description

An Athletic Trainer is a healthcare professional who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating sports-related injuries and illnesses. They work closely with athletes to ensure their physical well-being, provide rehabilitation programs, and facilitate a safe return to their sport. Athletic Trainers are vital in promoting health and wellness, providing education on injury prevention, and developing conditioning programs tailored to athletes‘ specific needs. They often collaborate with coaches, physicians, and other healthcare providers to optimize athletes‘ performance and health.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and evaluate injuries sustained by athletes during practices and competitions.
  • Develop and implement injury prevention programs, including strength and conditioning regimens.
  • Provide immediate care and first aid for athletic injuries, including the application of ice, compression, and immobilization.
  • Design and supervise rehabilitation programs to help injured athletes recover and safely return to their sport.
  • Collaborate with coaches and sports staff to develop strategies for athlete safety and health.
  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress for athletes.
  • Educate athletes, coaches, and parents on injury prevention techniques and proper conditioning practices.
  • Stay current with best practices and advancements in sports medicine and athletic training.
  • Coordinate with medical professionals for referrals and follow-up care when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards in sports settings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Certification from the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer.
  • State licensure to practice as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sports injuries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with athletes, coaches, and medical staff.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate athletic schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
