Sanitation Workers play a vital role in maintaining public health and safety by ensuring that waste is properly collected and disposed of. This position involves physical labor and requires a commitment to cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The Sanitation Worker will work as part of a team to uphold the standards of sanitation and hygiene in various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and transport solid waste, recyclables, and compostable materials from designated areas to disposal facilities
- Operate sanitation vehicles and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation
- Conduct routine inspections of vehicles and equipment, performing basic maintenance and reporting any issues to supervisors
- Follow safety protocols and regulations to ensure the safe handling of waste materials
- Maintain cleanliness in work areas, including washing vehicles and equipment regularly
- Assist with the sorting and separation of recyclable materials from general waste
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public to provide information about sanitation services
- Participate in community outreach programs to educate residents about proper waste disposal and recycling practices
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations related to waste management and environmental protection
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record; commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required for certain positions
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor
- Familiarity with sanitation equipment and safety practices is a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills
- Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed
