A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides assistance and support to individuals with disabilities, helping them lead fulfilling and independent lives. The DSP works closely with clients to ensure their personal, physical, and emotional needs are met while promoting their independence and community involvement. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, providing companionship, and implementing individualized care plans designed to improve the quality of life for those in need.

Responsibilities:

• Assist clients with personal care tasks, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
• Support individuals in managing daily activities, including cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
• Help clients participate in recreational and community activities.
• Provide companionship and foster meaningful relationships to encourage social interaction.
• Administer medications and document health-related activities as prescribed.
• Transport clients to medical appointments, community events, or other activities.
• Implement and monitor individualized care plans tailored to the specific needs of each client.
• Maintain clear and accurate documentation of care, activities, and incidents.
• Work closely with other healthcare professionals and family members to ensure proper support is provided.
• Promote clients‘ independence and help them achieve personal goals.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in caregiving, support work, or similar roles is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate, patient, and understanding when dealing with individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to lift and assist clients with mobility.
• Certification in CPR/First Aid or willingness to obtain certification.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if transporting clients).

Work Environment:

• Work may take place in a client’s home, residential care facility, or community setting.
• May involve evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on the client’s needs.
• Physical tasks such as lifting, moving, and assisting with personal care are common.
