Job Description

A Surveyor is responsible for measuring land, air, and water areas to determine property boundaries, topography, and land features. They use specialized equipment and technology to collect accurate data for various purposes, including construction, land development, and environmental assessments. Surveyors play a crucial role in ensuring that projects comply with legal and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct land surveys to determine property boundaries, elevations, and contours.
  • Utilize surveying equipment such as theodolites, total stations, GPS, and drones to gather accurate measurements.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records of surveys, including maps, sketches, and reports.
  • Analyze survey data and create reports for clients, engineers, and architects.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to ensure that building projects align with survey findings.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data and correct any discrepancies.
  • Research property records and legal documents to confirm boundaries and ownership.
  • Stay updated on land use regulations and zoning laws to ensure compliance in survey work.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in surveying, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional licensure as a land surveyor (LS) is preferred or required, depending on state regulations.
  • Proficiency in using surveying instruments and technology, including CAD software for drafting and design.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret survey data accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting findings to clients and collaborating with other professionals.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities to address survey-related issues effectively.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:
Surveyors typically work both in the office and in the field. Fieldwork may involve traversing uneven terrain, climbing, and working in various weather conditions. In the office, surveyors use computers to analyze data, create maps, and prepare reports. Collaboration with engineers, architects, and construction teams is common, making strong teamwork and communication skills essential.
