Job Description

A Jeweler designs, creates, repairs, and sells jewelry items made from precious metals and gemstones. This role requires a blend of artistic creativity, technical skill, and knowledge of materials to produce high-quality jewelry pieces. Jewelers may work with customers to create custom pieces, ensuring that their unique styles and preferences are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and create unique jewelry pieces, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, using various metals and gemstones.
  • Repair and restore damaged jewelry, including resizing, polishing, and setting stones.
  • Evaluate the quality and authenticity of gemstones and metals to ensure high standards are met.
  • Assist customers in selecting jewelry and provide advice on maintenance and care.
  • Keep detailed records of sales, inventory, and customer orders.
  • Stay informed about current trends in the jewelry market and incorporate new techniques into designs.
  • Use various tools and equipment, including soldering irons, pliers, and polishing machines, with precision and care.
  • Educate clients about different materials and craftsmanship, enhancing their appreciation for fine jewelry.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in jewelry design or related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a jeweler, with a portfolio of completed work demonstrating skill and creativity.
  • Proficiency in jewelry-making techniques, including soldering, stone setting, and engraving.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity to work with intricate designs and small components.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills to engage effectively with clients.
  • Knowledge of precious metals and gemstones, including their properties and market value.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a retail environment.

Work Environment:
Jewelers typically work in retail jewelry stores, workshops, or studios. The work environment can be both creative and technical, often involving long hours spent at workbenches or display counters.
