We are actively seeking a motivated Collection Specialist to manage and resolve overdue accounts, ensuring timely payments and minimizing bad debt. The Collection Specialist will play a key role in maintaining positive relationships with clients while negotiating payment arrangements and providing exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage a portfolio of delinquent accounts, contacting clients to collect outstanding payments
- Communicate with customers via phone, email, and letters to resolve past-due balances and establish payment plans
- Research and resolve discrepancies related to billing and payments
- Maintain accurate records of all interactions and negotiations with clients
- Escalate unresolved accounts to legal or collection agencies as needed
- Collaborate with internal departments, such as accounting and sales, to resolve payment disputes and ensure timely invoicing
- Provide regular reports on the status of delinquent accounts and collection efforts
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws governing debt collection
- Identify opportunities to improve collection processes and recommend improvements to management
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in collections or a related field
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to handle difficult conversations professionally
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with accounting software
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple accounts simultaneously
- Knowledge of debt collection laws and regulations
