A Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records and ensuring accurate and timely reporting for an organization. This role involves performing general accounting duties, such as preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, processing payroll, and assisting with month-end and year-end financial close processes. The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the overall financial health of the company by ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts by reconciling balances and transactions.
  • Assist with the month-end and year-end financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and work with the accounting team to resolve any issues.
  • Reconcile bank statements, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Process and record payroll, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets.
  • Conduct variance analysis to explain differences between actuals and forecasts or budgets.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure proper documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other accounting standards.
  • Assist with tax filing preparation and compliance as needed.
  • Support the senior accountant and finance team with ad-hoc financial analysis and projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Work Environment:

  • Office environment with the potential for some remote work flexibility.
  • Regular collaboration with accounting and finance teams.
