An Automotive Mechanic’s Helper assists mechanics in performing repairs and maintenance on a wide range of vehicles. This role involves tasks such as handing tools, cleaning work areas, performing basic repairs, and learning more advanced techniques from experienced mechanics. The helper plays a key role in ensuring that repair tasks are completed efficiently and that mechanics have the necessary support to complete their jobs. Responsibilities:
- Assist mechanics with routine vehicle maintenance and repair tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and battery replacements.
- Prepare and organize tools, equipment, and parts for the mechanic to use during repairs.
- Clean and maintain the work area, including removing debris and organizing parts and tools after each job.
- Perform basic vehicle inspections, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and lights.
- Transport vehicles into and out of the service area as needed.
- Learn and apply basic mechanical techniques under the supervision of experienced mechanics.
- Handle minor repairs under supervision, such as changing tires, replacing air filters, and checking and refilling fluids.
- Report any vehicle issues observed during routine checks to the mechanic or supervisor.
- Assist in diagnosing vehicle problems by following directions from mechanics and using diagnostic tools.
- Keep accurate records of work completed and parts used.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; some technical or vocational training in automotive repair is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of automotive tools, equipment, and repair processes.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions carefully.
- Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as tires and parts, as needed.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to assist mechanics and follow directions effectively.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Experience in a garage or workshop setting is a plus but not required.

- The work is performed primarily in a garage or automotive repair shop.
- Helpers may spend long hours on their feet, lifting heavy tools and equipment.
