Job Description

A Plumber installs, repairs, and maintains water, gas, and sewage systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. They ensure plumbing systems function efficiently, following safety standards and regulations. Plumbers handle tasks such as unclogging drains, installing water heaters, repairing leaks, and reading blueprints to plan installations. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to work with a variety of tools and materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including water supply lines, waste disposal, and drainage systems.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and building specifications to determine plumbing layouts.
  • Inspect plumbing systems to identify issues like leaks, broken pipes, or malfunctioning appliances.
  • Install and service water heaters, boilers, dishwashers, toilets, and other plumbing fixtures.
  • Clear clogs in drains and repair sewer lines.
  • Replace or repair plumbing components such as pipes, valves, and fittings.
  • Perform routine maintenance to prevent plumbing emergencies.
  • Collaborate with contractors and other tradespeople during the construction or renovation of buildings.
  • Adhere to local plumbing codes and safety regulations.
  • Provide cost estimates for repairs or installations and ensure work is completed within budget and timeframe.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Valid plumbing license as required by local regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, and techniques.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools related to plumbing work.
  • Good physical stamina to handle heavy lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail in diagnosing and fixing plumbing issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to work with clients and other tradespeople.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on multiple projects.

Work Environment:

  • Works in various settings, including homes, commercial buildings, factories, and construction sites.
  • Exposure to different weather conditions when working outdoors.
  • Physical labor, such as crawling under buildings or reaching tight spaces, is common.
  • Risk of injury from handling tools, working in cramped areas, or dealing with hazardous materials like gas or sewage.
  • The job may require being on-call for emergency repairs, especially during nights and weekends.
