Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Insurance Underwriter to assess risk and determine insurance coverage eligibility for potential clients. The ideal candidate will evaluate applications, analyze data, and make informed decisions to ensure the company offers coverage that aligns with its risk management strategy. This role requires strong decision-making skills, excellent communication, and a thorough understanding of underwriting principles.

Responsibilities:

  • Review insurance applications to assess the level of risk involved in covering clients
  • Analyze financial documents, medical records, and other relevant information to determine eligibility for insurance coverage
  • Use underwriting software and actuarial data to calculate potential risk and premium rates
  • Approve or decline applications based on underwriting guidelines, risk tolerance, and company policies
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally to brokers, agents, and clients
  • Work closely with insurance agents and brokers to gather necessary information and provide guidance on policy coverage options
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal company policies
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, agents, and other stakeholders
  • Monitor the insurance portfolio, adjusting rates or coverage as necessary based on changing risks
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting decisions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of experience in insurance underwriting or a similar role
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risk and make sound judgments
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with agents, clients, and colleagues
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of professionalism and ethical standards in decision-making
