Job Description

The Stage Manager is responsible for overseeing the smooth execution of theatrical or live performances by managing all stage-related activities. This role includes coordinating rehearsals, calling technical cues during performances, and acting as the main point of contact for actors, crew members, and the director throughout the production process.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of rehearsals and live performances, ensuring smooth transitions and adherence to production schedules.
  • Serve as the primary point of communication between the director, actors, technical crew, and backstage staff.
  • Create and maintain detailed rehearsal schedules and ensure everyone adheres to them.
  • Call cues during live performances, including lighting, sound, set changes, and actor entrances.
  • Oversee stage setup and breakdown, ensuring that all props, set pieces, and equipment are in place and functioning.
  • Track and record all changes made during rehearsals and communicate them to the production team.
  • Ensure the safety of all personnel during rehearsals and performances, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Maintain and distribute prompt books containing all production notes, blocking, and cues.
  • Coordinate with wardrobe, makeup, and other departments to ensure performers are ready and on time for their cues.
  • Troubleshoot and solve any issues that arise during the production process, both in rehearsals and live performances.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Performing Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience as a Stage Manager or in a similar role in live performance production.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to handle the demands of fast-paced, live environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate with a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in managing technical aspects such as lighting, sound, and stage equipment.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle last-minute changes efficiently.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in theater production.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the production schedule.

Work Environment:

  • The Stage Manager typically works in theater venues, both in rehearsal rooms and backstage during live performances.
  • Fast-paced, high-pressure environment with tight schedules, particularly during live performances.
