A Cloth Merchant specializes in the buying and selling of various types of fabrics and textiles. Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an organized inventory of fabrics, including tracking stock levels, managing reorders, and ensuring quality control.
  • Display fabrics attractively in the store or online, utilizing merchandising techniques to enhance visibility and appeal.
  • Provide expert advice to customers on fabric selection, usage, and care, considering their specific needs and projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their preferences and providing personalized service.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new fabric technologies, and market demand to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues related to orders, returns, or product quality.
  • Conduct sales transactions, process payments, and manage financial records related to purchases and sales.
  • Collaborate with fashion designers and tailors to create custom orders and provide fabrics that meet their design specifications.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in fashion, textile science, or business is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in retail, sales, or textile industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of different types of fabrics, their properties, and appropriate uses.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and suppliers.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage inventory and sales records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions and inventory management.
